More Than Networking: Why AKMA Mixers Matter

Last week, the Alaska Manufacturing Association hosted another MFG Mixer—this time at beadedstream in Anchorage—and the evening was a reminder of exactly why connection is such an important part of AKMA’s mission.

Manufacturers, makers, logistics providers, service partners, and industry supporters from across Alaska gathered to share ideas, build relationships, and learn from one another’s experiences.

We were honored to host the mixer at beadedstream, recently recognized as the SBA’s 2026 Manufacturer of the Year for the Region. Attendees had the opportunity to hear directly from their team, learn more about their manufacturing process, and get a behind-the-scenes look at the work happening inside their facility.

A huge thank you also goes to our presenting sponsor, Advanced Supply Chain International (ASCI), recently recognized as the SBA’s 2026 Woman-Owned Small Business of the Year for Alaska. Their support helped make the event possible and reinforced the importance of collaboration across Alaska’s business and manufacturing ecosystem.

One of the most meaningful parts of the evening was hearing attendees reflect on how valuable it is to be around people who truly understand the realities of manufacturing in Alaska.

As Whitney from Illusions Food Company shared after the event:

“The mixer was great. I appreciate getting to meet and see other manufacturers. We have great things going on in AK that people don’t always get to find out about.”

That’s exactly why AKMA hosts these mixers.

Manufacturing in Alaska can feel isolating at times. Whether businesses are navigating freight costs, sourcing materials, scaling production, workforce challenges, or expanding into new markets, there’s real value in having a community that understands those experiences firsthand.

What to Expect at an AKMA MFG Mixer

AKMA mixers are designed to create intentional opportunities for connection—not just networking for the sake of networking, but real conversations that help strengthen Alaska manufacturing as a whole.

A typical mixer includes:

  • Open networking with manufacturers and industry partners

  • Introductions around the room so attendees know who’s there and what they do

  • A sponsor spotlight featuring businesses and organizations supporting manufacturers

  • A presentation and mini-tour from the host manufacturer

  • Structured networking conversations focused on challenges, collaboration, and shared learning

  • Time for continued conversations and relationship building afterward

Throughout the evening, attendees exchanged lessons learned, discussed challenges openly, and discovered opportunities to support one another across industries. From food manufacturing and brewing to fabrication, logistics, and creative services, the room reflected the diversity and innovation within Alaska’s manufacturing ecosystem.

Connection is one of the core pillars of AKMA because strong industries are built on strong relationships—and Alaska manufacturers are stronger when we support one another.

One thing we consistently hear from attendees is that networking can feel intimidating at first, especially when trying to explain what you manufacture or how your business fits into the broader industry. That’s part of why AKMA is continuing to create educational opportunities alongside our mixers.

Our upcoming virtual Lunch + Learn on June 9th — Networking & Your Elevator Pitch for Manufacturers — is designed to help Alaska makers and manufacturers build confidence in networking, communicate clearly about what they do, and feel more prepared walking into future mixers and industry events.

Whether you’re introducing yourself to a buyer, supplier, industry partner, or another manufacturer, this session will help you build a stronger, more natural elevator pitch and make meaningful connections with confidence.

You can register for the Lunch + Learn here.

We also have additional mixers, workshops, and events planned throughout 2026 as we continue building opportunities for connection, collaboration, and visibility within Alaska manufacturing.
